Sissy is Summer Champion

2025 Summer Champion: Sissy

Sissy completed her impressive collection of titles in recurring ranking tournaments as she won the 2025 Summer Championship which she had failed to win in its first two editions.

She needed only the minimum of two games, albeit both highly dramatic, to win the last title that had evaded her thus far. Also, she extended her 3T-single-game winning streak to 11.

In the opener on Saturday evening, it seemed as though the die was more of an opponent than Harry and two-time defending Summer Champion Nici as Sissy had a really hard time to save her pawns and determine a go-to colour.

After 1:19 hours of play, Nici started her first of four PWL with BLU4. Nine minutes later, Harry sent VIO4 on his first of four PWL. While they both missed several match points and successfully disrupted each other’s play, Sissy finally managed to move her black pawns.

After 1:54 hours of play, she was able to start a PWL on her own. With Nici and Harry having missed eight and thirteen match points, respectively, Sissy converted her fifth match point on a “1” right at the two-hour mark with both opponents in match-point position themselves.

Game 2 on Sunday afternoon had some eerie similarities. Again, the die seemed to hate Sissy at first. Also, Nici and Harry collaborated in order to make sure the tournament would continue the following weekend.

After 1:28 hours of play, it was again Nici’s BLU4 to start its first of four PWL. Thirteen minutes later, Harry started his first of two PWL with GRN4. Again, both players missed out on several chances to finish the game in their respective favour.

Then, Nici and Harry showed the same weakness that allowed Sissy to win out the last six games of last year’s World Championship. Feeling too confident that one of them would win the game and now both desiring to claim victory, they stopped collaborating and let Sissy back into the game.

After 1:53 hours of play, she sent YLW4 on a PWL and got herself in championship-point position. Pressured by two of Harry’s violet pawns, with Nici having missed nine match points and Harry just his fifth in match-point position, Sissy threw a “1” to convert her tenth championship point, again right at the two-hour mark, again finishing her only PWL.

Sissy has not lost a single game played under 3T rules since Game 10 of last year’s World Championship. She is mathematically save to take her top spot in the World Rankings into the final “Major” of the season, the World Championship.

If anything, Nici and Harry should have realized by now that they will have to put selfishness aside in the endgames if they are to stand a chance against Sissy in the final two tournaments of the season.

If Sissy successfully defends her title at the upcoming Holiday Championship, she might not even need to win the World Championship and could still retain the “Medal” as Player Of The Year without winning any of this year’s “Majors”.

As the penultimate ranking tournament of the season and the last preparatory tournament for the World Championship, the Holiday Championship is scheduled to start on 2 September on the island of Spiekeroog.
