Sissy is one single-game win away from winning her third straight “Medal” after shutting out Nici and Harry to win the 2025 Holiday Championship in East Frisia.
Sissy extended her incredible 3T-single-game winning streak to 14 and will go heavily favoured into the 2025 World Championship, the final and most prestigious “Major” of the season.
Sissy dominated both games of the opening doubleheader last Wednesday at Spiekeroog as she needed only 74 and 64 minutes, respectively, to claim victory.
In Game 1, she converted her first match point on a “4” to complete her fourth PWL. In Game 2, she needed only one PWL which she completed on a “1” with her fifth match point.
Game 3 played today in Dornumersiel turned out way more dramatic. After 72 minutes of play, Harry sent GRN4 on his first of seven PWL. At the end of his fourth PWL, he missed seven match points to force a fourth game which would have been played today as well as part of another doubleheader.
Sissy showed yet another brilliant tactical display against collaborating opponents, making sure that neither opponent would dominate the board too much against their respective collaborator. Accordingly, Nici had her blue team in promising position and eventually went on a PWL after 1:45 hours of play.
Eight minutes earlier, Sissy had started a PCWL. Supported by savvy blocking from her yellow team, she moved BLK4 around the track and eventually converted her sixth championship point on a “1”.
Even though such games are assumed the easiest to collaborate against one opponent, Sissy has won 14 straight single games played under 3T rules, presumably nine of which against collaborators. The last 3T game not won by Sissy was Game 10 of the 2024 World Championship. Harry’s last 3T single-game win came in Game 8 of that tournament.
Had Harry won at least one single game of the Holiday Championship and then become World Champion, Sissy would have needed to finish the World Championship in second place to still win the “Medal”. Now, after winning five of six non-Majors, she only needs one single-game win to become the first Player Of The Year without actually winning a trophy.
While Harry could still win the “Medal” by becoming World Champion and shutting out his wife, Nici has been mathematically eliminated from “Medal” contention.
The World Championship is scheduled to start on 20 September.
