World Championship: Sissy wins Game 11, takes 2-win lead

Sissy pulled out an improbable, yet fully deserved win in Game 11 at Monday Night MÄDNess, thus extending her overall lead to two wins (5-3-3).

The early stages of the game were quite rocky for Sissy who had to witness both Nici (violet) and Harry (blue) save their first pawns early.

But the table turned when Sissy saved three yellow pawns within only 20 minutes to put the pressure on her opponents.

From then on, Sissy had nine potential winner laps cut short but her daughter and her husband now collaborating more heavily against her.

In the meantime, both Nici and Harry got to save their respective second pawns and had their remaining pawns of their respective go-to colours on the track simultaneously.

But fighting off immense pressure from pawns of all four opposing colours threatening from behind, Sissy converted her second match point on a “4” after 1:24 hours of play.

24 hours early, Nici breathed a huge sigh of relief when she finally finished Game 10 on a “2” for her fourth violet pawn after 2:20 hours of play, then move within one win of the overall lead.

Previously, Nici had missed out on a total of 13 match points and had a total of 14 potential winner laps cut short. After 63 minutes, Nici went on her first PWL with her fourth green pawn to start a grinding and often enough frustrating hunt for her third win.

Harry needed 60 minutes to finally save his first red pawn. Even though trailing Sissy on aggregate, he would not go easy on his daughter’s pawns and instead tried to get the win for himself to go tied for first place.

After 2:14 hours of play, he went on his first and only PWL with his fourth red pawn and got it around the track and into match-point situation. He missed three match points to pull out a comeback win before Nici finally clinched a well deserved win.

Sissy 5, Nici 3, Harry 3

Games 12 and 13 are scheduled for the coming weekend. It is likely that one of the games will be played at Monday Night MÄDNess.

Sissy has won four of the last six games. Nici and Harry should seriously consider to collaborate more heavily to prevent Sissy from running away with the overall score.
