“Queen” Sissy scored big in Game 4 and again in the Extra Game to put behind a poor start into the tournament and win the 2025 GP Spring Series.
By successfully defending her title won in 2024, Sissy prevented finishing three consecutive ranking tournaments below first place for the first time in her career.
For Harry, the tournament ended in utter disappointment as he failed to finish a potentially championship-winning lap in Game 4 to end his long wait for a ranking-tournament title.
For Nici, finishing the tournament in third place despite scoring maximum points in Game 1 poses a setback on her way to the top of the rankings following her first “Major” title.
In Game 1, Nici rode the momentum she had built by winning two consecutive tournaments as she finished her colours in first and second place for the maximum GPP tally while Sissy and Harry shared the remaining points equally, thus giving their froggy daughter the maximum lead. However, this would remain the only time that she would score double-digit numbers.
Nici did extend the gap to her Mom in Game 2 as she scored 7 GPP compared to Sissy’s 6 GPP but Harry had a great day as he scored both in first place and in fourth place for the bonus-GPP to cut his overall deficit to first place from 13 to 5 GPP.
In Game 3, Sissy ignited her comeback as she edged out her husband 12 to 11 GPP. Even though Harry scored the 10-pointer, Sissy finished her colours in second and third place for a total of 12 GPP.
Harry was not able to prevent last place for his second colour but he still took the minimum overall lead and kept a comfortable distance of 8 GPP between himself and his wife.
Sissy knew she had to score big in Game 4 to stand a chance of competing for the title and she did so by finishing her yellow team in first place. She could not prevent Harry from finishing his black team in second place but a fourth-place finisher for her Reds behind Nici’s violet team was enough to keep her chances alive.
Harry would have clinched the title by the minimum margin by finishing his green team in fifth place. He did start a PWL for the title with GRN4 just over 5/6 around the track. But his potentially championship-winning lap was cut short before he could even go for his first championship point.
Eventually, Nici got to finish her Blues in fifth place, thus forcing an Extra Game for the first time in XMädn history with Sissy and Harry tied at 38 GPP and Nici trailing by only 2 GPP.
While both Sissy and Harry went into the Extra Game knowing they would still have a chance to pull out the win or force a second Extra Game even without a first-place finishing, Nici needed the 10-pointer have a mathematical chance to win the tournament in this game.
However, the die that she seemed to have on her side so often and so unconditionally let Nici down big-time as she would not save a pawn before Sissy had saved 3-&-3 and Harry 2-&-2. After only 76 minutes of play, Sissy went on her first PWL with RED4.
With her opposition having a vast majority of pawns active, Sissy had a total of 13 PWL cut short when Harry went on a PWL himself with GRN4 after 1:57 hours of play. Two minutes later, she finally completed her red team’s ninth PWL by converting match point number 1 for first place.
In need of second place and a bonus-GPP finishing to stay in the title race, Harry did finish his green team in second place. He tried to collaborate with Nici, who knew that forcing a second Extra Game would be her only slim hope to pull out the title.
However, after 2:06 of play, Sissy’s YLW4 converted championship point number 2 at the end of as many PWL for the title.
While Sissy won her 14th ranking tournament of her career, Harry’s wait for number 3 continues and has been going on since January of last year. While Sissy has slightly extended her lead in the World Rankings, Nici’s lead in the Medal Race has been cut from 11 to 4 points ahead of the GP Holiday Series, the last preparatory for the GP World Series.
